Lost and found

A coat was found at the end of the Dorset Area AGM at Wool. To claim this item, please contact us.

News from the Social Secretary

Our trip to see the Abbotsbury illuminations produced some stunning pictures. Please let us know if you have other ideas of outings you would like to see on our programme.

More social events

Our programme usually includes several social events a year. See your programme for our next event, a short walk followed by a lunch at the Barley Mow in early February 2016.

2015 Dorset Area Spider Walk

East Dorset Group supplied two walks for the Dorset Area spider walk. Despite poor weather, seven walks of different lengths converged on Giant Hill for a picnic. We are hoping for another spider walk in July 2016.

If you want to know more about the above events, look in your programme for more details or contact us.

2014 Dorset Area Spider Walk

Once again, East Dorset Group supplied two walks for the Dorset Area spider walk. Six walks of different lengths converged on the highest point of Hambledon Hill for a picnic.

Group Trek

East Dorset Group organises treks over the Easter and August bank holidays. Please ask us if you are interested in finding out more about these. You can see a few pictures of a recent trek here.

Purbeck Plod

The Purbeck Plod is a challenge walk and run organised by our group. The most recent one took place on Sunday 28th June 2015. See our Purbeck Plod page for more information.

Poole Harbour Trails

The Poole Harbour Trails Community Group was formed to work on the creation of a new National Trail around Poole Harbour. Using public rights of way and access land, it is already possible to walk around most of the harbour and 6 linear walks have been developed by the group to cover the entire circuit. 3 of these walks have already appeared in East Dorset programmes. Walks leaflets can now be found on the Group's web site on its walks page and for sale at tourist information offices and the linear walks have now been waymarked with small, green roundels.

All England Coastal Access

In 2009 the Government passed the Marine and Coastal Access Act which for the first time gives us the right to a coastal path round England. Dorset is the first place in England for people to get this right of access to the coast along the 17 mile Weymouth Stretch.

Dorset County Councilís Coastal Rangers and Coastal Access Officer ran an event on Sunday 1st July 2012.

On Friday 6th July 2012 Dorset Ramblers walked the whole length of the 17 mile Weymouth stretch of the new Coast Path. Kate Ashbrook, President of the Ramblers, joined the walk and performed a path-opening ceremony by cutting a ribbon.

Page updated 11th December 2015.
